The City

The city of La Plata, founded in November 19, 1882, is one of the few cities in the world that was planned before its building.

This metropolis was imagined and diagrammed considering positivist science ideas, and the epoch’s need for order and hygiene. Its characteristic design, praised by the most prestigious urban planners worldwide, has made it an architectural icon of the end of the 19th century: a square cut by diagonal streets that form internal rhombuses, with parks and avenues located at exactly six blocks from each other.
At present, the city of La Plata is an administrative, commercial, recreational, and cultural center which possesses a magnificent architecture, as expressed in its foundational buildings, parks, avenues and promenades.

La Plata, capital of the province of Buenos Aires, is located at 56 kilometers from the city of Buenos Aires, and connected with it by a railroad and a modern highway.

As a modern and peaceful city, La Plata offers a broad variety of attractions, ranging from its feverish cultural, social and academic life, its original tourism circuits, such as the magnificent cathedral –the most significant of Latin America– the Children’s Republic amusement park, the promenade of the Wood, and the Zoological Garden, to the widest options in accommodation and high-level gastronomy, making the city a place worth knowing and visiting.
